Tesla's Model S is busy traveling the world and setting records at famous racing tracks.
On Wednesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the Model S set the record for the fastest four-door car at the Laguna Seca racetrack in California, with a 1:36.555 lap.

And now, we can watch that lap on video.
According to Musk, the Model S used for this lap has a new Plaid powertrain, which will go into mass production in about a year. It was originally supposed to be used in Tesla Roadster, but Musk now claims it will also appear on Tesla Model S and X (not Model 3 or Y, though).

Why "Plaid," you might wonder? Well, Tesla takes the names for its acceleration modes from the classic comedy Spaceballs, and as you can see in the clip below, the only thing that's faster than "ludicrous" speed is "plaid."
The Laguna Seca lap is just a warm-up for the real thing. Tesla is preparing a Model S to try and break the record for electric four-door cars at the famous Nürburgring track in Germany — the same record that Porsche's electric Taycan broke a few weeks ago with a 7 minute 42 second time.
According to Musk, the car's already there, but there won't be any record-breaking attempts this week as further tune-ups are necessary.
